Adiabatic Testing

Battery testing
THT battery testing services including abuse and electro-thermal dynamics can be conducted in the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter or EV-Accelerating Rate Calorimeter.

The Accelerating Rate Calorimeter is the world's benchmark adiabatic calorimeter.  Thermal Hazard Technology offer testing services using the latest in Accelerating Rate Calorimetry.  Sample testing requires a few grams of sample, contained in a metal bomb. The instrument will hold the sample in an adiabatic state, looking for heat generated by the sample. If no heat generation is detected, the instrument increases the temperature and looks for self-heating again.

When the sample begins to self-heat, (detection as low as 0.005 °C/min is possible), the instrument holds the sample in an adiabatic state, tracking the sample temperature to ensure there is no heat loss. Both temperature measurement and pressure measurement is made and logged.

Analysis of this data yields the onset of the reaction, the pressure rise, self heating profile etc. Further analysis can determine a time to maximum rate, heat of reaction as well as the kinetics of the reaction.

Thermal Hazard Technology is also able to offer a wide range of auxiliary options for testing samples within the instrument.

Reaction Calorimetry
Using both the
mRC™ and MRC™ allows THT to offer reaction calorimetry testing to meet all requirements.

Screening
The development of the RSD™ allows quick and accurate screening to determine potential thermal hazards in a cost-efficient manner.

Vent-Sizing
Using specialised Accelerating Rate Calorimetry options allows THT to offer vent-size determination in line with the current DIERS methodology.
