Adiabatic testing
Thermal Hazard Technology offer a full range of adiabatic testing using the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter together with specialised options.

 

The Accelerating Rate Calorimeter has been widely accepted as the best adiabatic calorimeter but the performance as a vent-sizing instrument has been limited.  Now THT have bridged this gap by introducing the VSU⁺, Low f containers, fast tracking and sample addition.  Using this set of options the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter can now determine vent sizes in accordance with DIERS methodology in the same way as any other instrument.  In addition the Cryogenic facility allows reactions operating under sub-ambient conditions to be studied.

Thermal Hazard Technology are members of the DIERS group and are fully committed to ensuring that the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter continues to meet all the DIERS requirements.  DIERS technology is always changing - THT regally attend DIERS meetings both in Europe and the US to ensure our methods are always up to date.

Vent-sizing is a complicated science but is not difficult.  A typical vent-size can be determined with 2-3 Accelerating Rate Calorimetry tests but the exact amount of testing will depend upon the chemical system and the vessel requirements.  Vent-sizing is performed using low f tests which require approximately 50g of material per test.
