Process Safety Webinar Series (2 of 2): Accelerating Rate Calorimetry (ARC)

09/02/2021

NOTE: If you already registered for the first webinar in the series which took place 26th Jan, you are automatically registered for this event.

The second webinar in our Process Safety Webinar Series will present the esARC Accelerating Rate CalorimeterThis technology is the number one choice for quantifying exothermic reactions, effect of heat upon materials and simulating runaway reactions. The presentation will cover process safety considerations and theoretical background of ARC measurements. Data analysis to yield TMR, ADT24, TNR and SADT will also be discussed.

The webinar is followed by a Q&A session with the speaker. Register for free now.

Study of exothermic runaway reactions at safe laboratory scale using Accelerating Rate Calorimetry

10:00am GMT UK | 11am CET Europe | 3:30pm IST India

The Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC) has been the benchmark adiabatic safety calorimeter for more than 30 years. Devised by Dow Chemical Company in the 1970's, an explosion at a Dow UK site led to commercialisation of ARC technology. Today this technology is still the number one choice for quantifying exothermic reactions, effect of heat upon materials and simulating runaway reactions.

The presentation will cover

  • Process safety considerations
  • The purpose of the ARC test
  • Theoretical background: Heat-Wait-Seek methodology and the Phi (f) factor
  • Data Analysis: TMR (Time to Maximum Rate), ADT24 (Adiabatic Decomposition Temperature), TNR (Temperature of No Return), SADT (Self Accelerating Decomposition Temperature).
  • Test design considerations
  • ARC operation and options
